HC Deb 26 June 1991 vol 193 c496W
28. Mr. Norman Hogg

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on Anglo-Israel relations.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Our relations with Israel are good, though differences remain on the peace process and on Israeli policies in the occupied territories, in particular the continued establishment and expansion of settlements. I had useful discussions with the Israeli Government in May when I visited Israel.

34. Mr. Roy Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent discussions he has had with the Israeli Government concerning a peaceful long-term settlement in the middle east.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs is in regular contact with the Israeli Foreign Minister. During my recent visit to Israel and the occupied territories, I had detailed discussions with leading Israelis and Palestinians on the peace process and urged them to show the flexibility necessary for Mr. Baker's initiative to succeed.

37. Mr. Andrew MacKay

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has any further plans to visit Israel.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs has no plans at present to visit Israel. I visited Israel on 6–9 May.
