HC Deb 19 June 1991 vol 193 c191W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the future of the Bullring, St. Andrews gardens, Liverpool; what talks he has had about its future; if he will meet tenants' representatives to discuss the conditions in which they are living; and whether he will agree to visit this tenement block.

Mr. Yeo

The future of the council houses at the Bullring, St. Andrews gardens, Liverpool, the condition of the living accommodation there and the need to meet and consult tenants' representatives are all matters for Liverpool city council. It is responsible for the management and maintenance of its stock.

I have had no discussions about the future of the Bullring although a number of initiatives which are under way, particularly the city challenge invitation to the city, will involve some discussion with the Government later in the autumn. I understand that the city challenge area being considered by the city would include St. Andrews gardens.

I have no plans to visit Liverpool in the near future.
