HL Deb 05 June 1991 vol 529 c43WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, with reference to Lord Brabazon of Tara's Answer to Lord Kennet's Question concerning British insurers and the Cyprus registered supertanker "Haven" which recently caused pollution in the Mediterranean (H.L. Deb., 9th May, col. WA51) they have any responsibility for ensuring that the British insurance industry operates in the public interest.

Lord Brabazon of Tara:

The statutory provisions regarding marine insurance are contained in the Marine Insurance Act 1906. Regulation of the insurance industry is a matter for my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry.
