§ Lord Braybrookeasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they, in consultation with British Rail, will review the Stansted Express service to see whether it could provide a more widespread service to the people of Essex while airport traffic remains minimal.
§ The Minister of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara):The planning and operation of rail services, including the Stansted Express, are a matter for British Rail and any change would be for them. They tell me that, as airline business is currently depressed, patronage may be lower than expected but demand will grow as airport traffic increases. If they are to attract a high proportion of Stansted users they need to provide a frequent and convenient rail service from the outset.
