HC Deb 14 February 1991 vol 185 c559W
Mr. David Porter

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the average cost per consultant appointment in the last year for which figures are available; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dorrell

[holding answer 11 February 1991]: Financial returns submitted by district health authorities in England show the average cost per out-patient attendance as £24.86 for 1988–89, and £26.58—provisional figure—for 1989–90. These figures are average for all specialties, and cover direct consultation-treatment costs only.
