To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what departmental Ministers and officials were present, and what written and oral representations were made from the United Kingdom, at the special meeting convened on 18 August by the Prime Minister of Sweden on pollution of the northern seas and waterways.

[holding answer 26 October 1988]: The United Kingdom was represented at the international conference on problems in the marine environment convened by the Swedish Government on 18 August in Stockholm by Mr. J. H. Cleary, marine branch, Department of the Environment, and Dr. John Harwood, director, sea mammal research unit, Natural Environment Research Council. The United Kingdom gave a report on research and monitoring in the marine environment and on progress in implementing the measures agreed at the second North sea ministerial conference in London in November 1987.
