To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on progress towards the development of a European Community energy policy; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Morrison

As I have informed the House, the Energy Council of 9 June was unable to agree conclusions on the Commission's review of Member states' energy policies with regard to the Community's 1995 energy objectives. The review will be reconsidered at the Energy Council tomorrow.
