§ 27. Mr. AlexanderTo ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will list the British companies involved on the construction and future operation of Sizewell B, and the total number of personnel employed on the project.
§ Mr. Michael SpicerThe construction and operation of the Sizewell B PWR is a matter for the CEGB, however, I am advised by the board that a total of 57 contracts have been let to British companies. I am asking the chairman of the CEGB to let my hon. Friend have the names of these companies.
The total number of permanent CEGB staff working on the project, in the project management board, is currently 850, with another 1,200 in the design consultants. I understand that there are also over 1,000 contractor's staff on site. The CEGB estimates that the numbers employed on work associated with Sizewell, together with the jobs actually generated on site, will average out at roughly 10,000 jobs per year being created over the seven-year construction period.
