To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what information he has concerning proposals by Newbattle Abbey trustees to realise land assets in order to raise funds to continue the provision by the college of services to Scottish adults.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will consider extending the deadline for receipt of specific commitments to use Newbattle Abbey college in view of delays in establishing the Scottish wider access programme and other factors; and if he will make a statement.

No. My right hon. and learned Friend believes that sufficient time was provided for this issue to be resolved, and he does not wish uncertainty about the future of Newbattle Abbey college to continue longer than is necessary.
