§ Mr. Ronnie CampbellTo ask the Secretary of State for Energy (1) who will be liable to bear the costs and responsibility for the safe disposal of nuclear waste after privatisation of the electricity supply industry;
(2) whether the decommissioning of nuclear power stations will be the responsibility of the private company which takes them over; and by whom the cost will be borne.
§ Mr. Michael SpicerThe operators of nuclear power stations will continue to be responsible for decommissioning and management of radioactive wastes, within the guidelines on safety and environmental protection set by the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate of the Health and Safety Executive and Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution, and for their costs.
