§ Mr. Nicholas BennettTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the transfer of funding responsibility for extra-mural departments in English universities to the Universities Funding Council.
Mr. JacksonThe Universities Funding Council will assume responsibility for funding extra-mural departments in English universities from the beginning of the next financial year. An official working party has considered the implications of a transfer and copies of its report are being sent today to the chairmen of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals and the University Grants Committee My right hon. Friend will commend the report to the UFC, when it is established.
