To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what information he has concerning delays experienced by motorists on the A2—M2 southbound carriageway on Friday 1 July between 11 pm and midnight; and if he will made a statement about future improvements to, and maintenance of, this road.

I regret the delays. They were caused by accidents and by the subsequent removal of the contraflow system on completion of major maintenance work.

We have an extensive programme of maintenance on the A2/M2 over the next few years. Every effort is made to minimise delays to motorists.
