§ 53. Mrs. FyfeTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he will discuss his proposals for privatisation of National Health Service services with the National Union of Public Employees, the Confederation of Health Service Employees, and other trade unions representing hospital workers.
§ Mr. Michael ForsythIf events up to and including the "day of action" on 24 February demonstrate a genuine attempt by the trade unions to protect patients I would be prepared to consider a meeting.
§ 54. Dr. GodmanTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has any plans to meet the chairmen of the health boards in order to discuss his plans for the privatisation of certain services and functions.
§ Mr. Michael ForsythMy right hon. and learned Friend has no plans for privatisation. Competitive tendering for236W support services has been discussed with health board chairmen on a number of occasions. Boards are now proceeding with a limited programme of tendering and I propose to discuss progress when I meet chairmen next month.
