§ Mr. LeightonTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what ancillary services to the Metropolitan police have been privatised since 1979.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggI understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that the following services have been contracted out in whole or in part since 1979, although a few may have been contracted out to some extent before then:
- vehicle servicing and repairs
- boat and aircraft repairs
- radio repairs
- vehicle wheelclamping
- design and organisation of building works
- design and installation of electrical, mechanical and public health services in buildings
- maintenance, alterations and improvements to buildings quantity surveying
- cleaning of buildings
- laundering
- security of buildings
- computer services
- publishing and bookbinding
- recovery of vehicles
From 15 February 1988, the removal of storage of illegally parked vehicles in three areas of London will also be contracted out.
