HC Deb 15 February 1988 vol 127 cc436-7W
Ms. Ruddock

To ask the Secretary of State For the Home Department if he will set up an independent review body to examine evidence in relation to the Birmingham pub bombings that was inadmissible before the Court of Appeal.

Mr. Hurd

No. The Court of Appeal has carefully reviewed the convictions in this case and has concluded that they are safe. I am not aware of any evidence which the court was unable to consider and which merits further inquiry. In particular, having studied reports of what the hon. Member for Sunderland, South (Mr. Mullin) has said to my hon. and learned Friend, the Member for Putney (Mr. Mellor), to Home Office officials and to the police, I have found no grounds for further action on the basis of his statements.
