To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will bring forward proposals to improve standards of driving.

We are considering ways of achieving higher standards through the tuition given by approved driving instructors to learner drivers. The driving test remains a rigorous test of competence to drive and includes assessment of a candidate's driving behaviour. All drivers should aim to improve their driving ability throughout their driving careers. We are looking at ways of encouraging people to do so. We will offer appropriate advice.
