Mr. Strang

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has any plans to meet his counterpart in the Federal Republic of Germany to discuss the implications for arms control negotiations of modernisation of short-range nuclear weapons; and if he will make a statement.

My right hon. and learned Friend expects to meet Herr Genscher in the margins of the Foreign Affairs Council and on 19 and 20 December but there are no plans for a formal discussion then on the modernisation of NATO's short-range nuclear weapons. He also expects to have a bilateral meeting with Herr Genscher early in the new year; no agenda has yet been agreed but the discussion is likely to include current topics of interest to members of the NATO Alliance.
