To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the state of Anglo-Japanese relations.

Anglo-Japanese relations are excellent.1988 has seen a significant increase in co-operation in many fields. We have made progress on a number of trade-related issues, including the long-standing dispute over whisky tax. My right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State hopes to have a further round of talks with the Japanese Foreign Minister in the new year.
