HC Deb 21 October 1987 vol 120 c744W
Ms. Abbott

asked the Attorney-General why some of the papers relating to Marcus Garvey have been withheld from inspection in the Public Record Office; and if he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

Records may be retained by Departments under section 3(4) of the Public Records Act 1958, or may be closed under sections 5(1) and 5(2) of the Act, for longer than the statutory 30-year period. It is riot possible to say which provision applies in this instance because it has not been possible to identify the papers from the information given.
