HC Deb 12 November 1987 vol 122 cc198-9W
Mr. Robert G. Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the outcome of consultation on proposals to unify caravan and tent site licensing.

Mr. Moynihan

The Department and the Welsh Office received over 100 responses to the consultation paper issued in March. Although certain aspects of the proposals received support, most respondents took the view that there is insufficient evidence of problems now arising on caravan and tent sites so as to justify the greater degree of control which was envisaged. We have therefore decided not to proceed at present with amending legislation, but we shall continue to keep the situation under review.

In the light of this I understand that my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland has decided not to proceed with the similar consultation exercise which he originally intended.
