HC Deb 18 March 1987 vol 112 c541W
15. Dr. Twinn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations have been made to the Russian embassy over the difficulties that parliamentary human rights groups have experienced in obtaining visas to visit the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

18. Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he has protested to the Soviet authorities concerning the refusal to grant visas to a delegation from the all-party parliamentary committee for the release of Soviet Jewry.

Mr. Renton

I have made representations on two recent occasions: on behalf of the All-Party Parliamentary Committee for the Release of Soviet Jewry; and on behalf of my hon. Friend the Member for Harrow, East (Mr. Dykes) and representatives of the Parliamentary Wives for the Release of Soviet Jewry. In the former case, Her Majesty's ambassador in Moscow also expressed his strong regret to the Soviet authorities that visas had not been forthcoming.
