asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he intends to carry out public consultations on the terms and conditions that he proposes to apply to any authorisations for the discharge of radioactive waste from Torness nuclear power station; and if he will make a statement.

Letters with copies of the draft certificates of authorisation and explanatory information have today been sent to the following public bodies for their consideration:

  • Lothian Regional Council
  • Borders Regional Council
  • East Lothian District Council
  • Berwickshire District Council
  • Lothian Health Board
  • Borders Health Board
  • Forth River Purification Board
  • Tweed River Purification Board
  • Forth District Salmon Fisheries Board
  • River Tweed Commissioners

A news release issued by Scottish Information Office today, advises members of the public that copies of the papers may be obtained from the Scottish Development Department and that any views which they wish to express will be considered.
