HC Deb 13 March 1987 vol 112 c337W
Mr. Norman Hogg

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland where maps concerning the route options for the proposed M80 between Stepps and Haggs may be inspected.

Mr. Ancram

It is not our practice to publish details of alternative routes. Once the preferred route for the proposed motorway has been established, draft orders will be published. These will be available for inspection, along with the associated plans, at local council offices, at New St Andrew's House in Edinburgh and at a local exhibition which will be set up immediately after publication of the orders.

Mr. Norman Hogg

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what procedures are open to the public to make representations to the Scottish Development Department on the line of route proposed for the M80 motorway; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ancram

Once the preferred route has been identified, draft statutory orders will be published showing the line of the proposed motorway, the junctions and the connecting side roads. At that stage affected parties and the general public will be given the opportunity to comment on, or object to, the proposals. An exhibition will also be held to explain the proposals in detail. If formal objections are received and not withdrawn, the Scottish Development Department will consider these carefully and decide whether to publish modified proposals. Ultimately, if unresolved objections remain, a public local inquiry may be required.
