Mr. John Mark Taylorasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information his Department collects on the number of immigrants who have entered the United Kingdom with the stated intention of working, but who have not worked for a five-year period.
§ Mr. Waddington[pursuant to his reply, 19 December 1986, c. 735]: People who seek to enter the United Kingdom for the purpose of working here are admitted only if they qualify under the immigration rules. Detailed records are not kept of the subsequent circumstances of those who so qualify. However, those who are granted limited leave to enter for employment are required to show that they are still so employed before any extension of that leave is granted.
