HC Deb 02 February 1987 vol 109 c490W
Mr. Hancock

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make extra provision within the rate support grant for local authorities to cover the extra spending which has arisen out of the requirements of the Consumer Safety (Amendment) Act 1986.

Mr. Chope

The Consumer Safety (Amendment) Act 1986 introduced measures which allow local authorities to prevent unsafe consumer goods coming on to the market in the first place. This will enable more effective and efficient enforcement of existing consumer legislation and overall should not result in a need for extra resources.
