34. Mr. Allen McKay

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received on the Green Paper for the reform of maintained further education; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received on the Green Paper for the reform of maintained further education; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jackson

We have had some 350 responses to the consultation paper on the reform of maintained further education, including responses from most local education authorities and many colleges and organisations, as well as from individuals. There have also been meetings with the national bodies most concerned. We have taken careful note of the suggestions that were offered. Some are reflected in the provisions in the Bill now introduced, and others will influence the further development of the proposals.
