§ Mr. ChopeA formal direction regarding the presentation of statements of accounts for 1985–86 was issued to all residuary bodies on 26 July. There is no legislative requirement for the Secretary of State to publish such directions, but I am placing copies in the Library for information.

§ Mr. ChopeNo. The conduct of the day-to-day affairs of the London Residuary Body is a matter for it to decide. The London Residuary Body consults London boroughs as and when necessary.
§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what discussions have taken place between his Department and the London Residuary Body concerning the shortfall in the income of the London Residuary Body between 1 April and 31 May; and if he will make a statement.

§ Mr. ChopeThe Department's officials have discussed the possible borrowing needs of the London Residuary Body with officers of the body on a number of occasions since 8 July. In the light of those discussions a direct response to the letter is not now appropriate.
§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for the Environment, pursuant to the reply of 25 July, Official Report, column 559, what representations have been considered by his Department from interested parties in relation to borrowing by the London Residuary Body in 1986–87.
§ Mr. ChopeThe Department has received no such representations, other than those from the London Residuary Body itself, about which I am answering other questions from the hon. Member today.

Member for Newham, North-West can expect a response from the chairman of the London Residuary Body to points raised in the debate on 23 May as promised in that debate and subsequently in letters from Ministers on 6 June and 6 August; and in the written answer of 25 July, Official Report, column 562.
