HC Deb 21 October 1986 vol 102 cc832-3W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement about the current state of negotiations with Anchor Housing Association regarding the Greater London Council's seaside and country homes.

Mr. Chope

Negotiations are in progress but not yet finalised.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what discussions have taken place between his Department and the London Residuary Body regarding a takeover of all or any of the Greater London Council's seaside and country homes by private concerns.

Mr. Chope

My Department is being kept informed by the London Residuary Body of developments.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will issue a direction to the London Residuary Body to guarantee 100 per cent. nomination rights for Londoners to the Greater London Council's seaside and country homes scheme in the event of any sale or transfer to private concerns; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chope

The London Residuary Body is aware of the statement on 20 February 1986 by my hon. Friend the Member for Ealing, Acton (Sir G. Young) that the homes will be reserved for London's elderly.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, pursuant to the reply of 25 July, Official Report, column 559, he will give the date of the letter from the London Residuary Body referring to support from the Association of London Authorities for the transfer of the Greater London Council's seaside and country homes to a housing association where fair rents apply.

Mr. Chope

The letter which referred to support from the ALA was from the Greater London Council, dated 5 November 1985.
