Mr. John Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how long on average it takes between approval of an application for European regional development fund non-quota textile areas assistance for projects in west Yorkshire and payment of grant moneys.

Grant is claimed as authorities incure expenditure. The average time for grant payment from the closing date of each claims round is seven months.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many applications for European regional development fund non-quota textile areas assistance have been approved for projects in west Yorkshire; and what is the total value of these approved applications.

There have been 49 approvals with a total grant value of £1.562 million in west Yorkshire on the infrastructure side.

There are three applications under consideration from the 1986 round with a potential grant value of £743,856. Ten subsequent applications with a potential grant value of £879,000 have also been submitted to the Department and will be considered as part of the 1987 round. My regional office has also received seven further applications with grant potential of £193,000 for schemes not yet in local authority capital programmes.
