HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 cc42-3W
Mr. Hancock

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take immediate steps to ban the importation of killer whales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

I have already acted. In my answer of 1 July 1986 at column 459 I said that my Department would not permit further imports of ceteceans until new standards for dolphinaria were met.

The departmental steering group set up to consider the detailed recommendations of the report commissioned from Dr. Margaret Klinowska is continuing its work and will take into account the recent death of the killer whale Nemo, at Windsor safari park.
