HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c43W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total sum received by Her Majesty's Government from the sale of machinery used in the Falkland Islands auctioned on 18 November; and what information he has on the original purchase price of the items auctioned.

Mr. Chope

A detailed account has not yet been completed but about £700,000 has been realised from the auction held on 17 and 18 November 1986.

These items are the residue from stocks issued by the Ministry of Defence for use by the Royal Engineers during and after the Falklands war and subsequently passed to the Property Services Agency for their use in the islands. The original purchase price of the various items cannot readily be identified, and the amount realised represents their secondhand value.
