§ Sir Peter Hordern
asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what information he has on the proportion of rates in Glasgow and Edinburgh which were borne by business and commercial ratepayers, in 1956, 1960, 1970, 1975, 1980, and the latest date for which figures are available.

Information for 1956 and 1960 is not available centrally. The estimated proportions of rates (excluding water rates) borne by commercial subjects in Glasgow and Edinburgh for 1970, 1975, 1980 and 1986 are shown in the table:
