Mr. Hickmet

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and other staff there are at Scunthorpe general hospital; how these figures compare with 1979; and if he will make a statement;

(2) by what absolute amount spending at Scunthorpe general hospital has increased since 1979, expressed at constant prices; and if he will make a statement;

(3) if he will make a statement about the programme of improvements to catering facilities at Scunthorpe general hospital;

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will provide details of the waiting lists in the Basildon and Thurrock district health authority area in (i) gynaecology, (ii) orthopaedic and (iii) ear, nose and throat; and if he will state how these compare with the regional averages.

(4) if he will make a statement about hospital expenditure at Scunthorpe general hospital, identifying in which areas new or improved facilities have been provided, at what cost, and what the future programme is;

(5) what recent improvements have been made in patient care at Scunthorpe general hospital; what further improvements are proposed; and if he will make a statement;

(6) how many more beds will be available for the treatment of patients in Scunthorpe health district and Scunthorpe general hospital after the completion of the capital programme; how this figure compares with 1979; what will be the effect on patient care; and if he will make a statement;

(7) how many day cases were treated at Scunthorpe general hospital between April 1985 and December 1985 compared with the same period in 1984; and if he will express any increase in absolute and percentage terms;

(8) what is the anticipated increase in the number of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and staff in all other departments of Scunthorpe general hospital and Scunthorpe health district upon completion of the capital programme.
