HC Deb 26 February 1986 vol 92 c603W
Mr. Silvester

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the cost of drugs dispensed at the Christie hospital, Manchester, and the Royal Marsden hospital, London, in the last 12 months; and what is the cost of drugs per patient.

Mr. Whitney

I regret we do not hold such detailed information centrally. My hon. Friend may therefore wish to direct his inquiries to the chairmen of the two health authorities involved.

Mr. Silvester

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the cost per patient of treatment at Christie hospital, Manchester, and the Royal Marsden hospital, London, in the last 12 months.

Mr. Whitney

Costing returns for 1984–85 submitted by the two health authorities show the following:

Cost per in patient day Cost per in patient case
Christie Hospital, Manchester 76.73 657.11
Royal Marsden Hospital, London 138.45 1,181.51

October 1985 November 1985 December 1985 Total
(a) Number of estimates for examination and report only 746 777 729 2,252
(b) Number of estimates on Form FP 17E 26 232 301 559
(c) Percentage on form FP 17E 3.5 29.9 41.3 24.8

Mr. Weetch

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the percentage of periodontal treatments paid by the Dental Estimates Board under items 3(a) and 5(a) during 1984; and whether this ratio has changed since October 1985.

Mr. Hayhoe

In 1984, 76.6 per cent. of periodontal treatments were approved under item 3(a) and 17.6 per cent. under item 5(a). Information for the period from October 1985 is not yet available, and would not be comparable as the definition of item 5(a) changed substantially in October 1985.
