HC Deb 03 February 1986 vol 91 c41W
21. Mr. Amess

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received over the last 12 months concerning crash barriers along the Al27; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

There have been a number, including some from hon. Members. The most recent concerned the tragic death of a schoolboy who was struck as he crossed by means of a gap in the central reserve fencing near Basildon, We are looking urgently at what may be done there to improve safety. There have also been calls for greater lengths of this fencing. In the coming year we shall be completing its provision on the trunk road in Essex and providing a length within the London borough of Havering.
