HC Deb 12 December 1986 vol 107 cc256-7W
Mrs. Peacock

asked the Paymaster General how many applications his Department has received in Batley and Spen under (a) the new workers scheme, (b) the mobility scheme and (c) the enterprise allowance.

Mr. Trippier

We do not have separate figures for Batley and Spen for the new workers scheme. At the end of November 546 people were supported by the scheme in Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees area which includes Batley and Spen. Since its introduction on 16 June 1986, Batley and Spen valley jobcentres have taken 20 applications under the travel to interview scheme. Sixteen were accepted.

Records are not available on the number of applications made under the enterprise allowance scheme, but since the scheme's inception in August 1983, 272 people from Batley and Spen have joined the scheme.

Mrs. Peacock

asked the Paymaster General if he will list the help being provided by his Department for (a) the young unemployed and (b) the long-term unemployed in Batley and Spen.

Mr. Trippier
