HL Deb 02 December 1986 vol 482 c812WA
Earl Fortescue

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many road hump schemes they have approved in Oxfordshire and in the rest of England and Wales.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

Local highway authorities may install road humps on their own roads, without reference to the Secretary of State, provided that they comply with the Highways (Road Hump) Regulations. The latest version of the regulations came into operation on 1st December (1986/No. 1856). These will make it significantly easier for local authorities to install humps. They include provision for humps on zebra crossings offering special benefits to pedestrians.
