Mr. Hancock

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what percentage change there has been in pupil-teacher ratios in the period from 1975 to 1984 in all types of schools.

The percentage changes in pupil-teacher ratios between January 1975 and 1984 within schools in England are as follows:

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what information is available to his Department as to the pupil-teacher ratio in secondary schools participating in the assisted places scheme.

[pursuant to his reply, 19 March 1985, c. 480]: The average pupil-teacher ratio at assisted places schools was 11.6 in January 1984, the most recent dale for which figures are available.
