HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 cc18-9W
57. Mr. Dubs

asked the Attorney-General what arrangements he has made to monitor the effects of the Legal Aid Act 1982 on the grant of criminal legal aid.

The Solicitor-General

The Lord Chancellor is concerned that he should receive accurate and prompt statistical returns from the magistrates courts on the grant and refusal of legal aid, and a more precise and simpler form of return has been introduced. The Law Society is collecting statistics on applications made to the criminal legal aid committees, including applications for recourse after refusal of legal aid by magistrates' courts.
