Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what were the amounts of emergency food aid sent to Ethiopia, Chad, the Central African Republic and Burkina in each of the years 1982, 1983 and 1984 to date; and what is the level of aid proposed for 1985.

The amounts of food aid provided by the United Kingdom are:

Of the 1984 allocations the Government have made 11,500 tonnes available direct to British voluntary agencies conducting relief work in Ethiopia, and 15,000 tonnes have been provided by the world food programme with British funds. Allocations under the 1985 programme of bilateral food aid will be decided according to the needs of recipient countries.
