HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 c986W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what arrangements he is making to consult Parliament and other appropriate bodies before reaching a decision about continued United Kingdom membership of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

Mr. Cyril D. Townsend

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what arrangements are being made for the consultation of Parliament and other appropriate bodies before any decision is announced about Britain's continuing membership of UNESCO.

Mr. Raison

I have called a meeting of members of the United Kingdom National Commission for UNESCO on 5 November to seek their views on progress made and our attempts to improve UNESCO. In reaching any decision about continued membership the Government will take into consideration the views of hon. Members and of the National Commission and of those organisations and individuals who have written to me.
