§ Mrs. Currieasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on the recent visit by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State to the Mining Research and Development Establishment at Bretby.
§ Mr. David HuntResearch and development is an essential part of a healthy technologically based industry and I therefore welcomed the opportunity to visit the Mining Research and Development Establishment to see at first hand the work which it is doing to improve the working conditions of miners and to ensure that the country obtains maximum benefit from its massive investment in advanced mining equipment. I was greatly impressed by the quality of the work that I saw and feel that there are important opportunities for applying the results of the work widely in the industry in the future.
