HC Deb 27 November 1984 vol 68 c448W
Mr. Fallon

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the level of the Government subsidy to British Rail in respect of London commuter services.

Mr. David Mitchell

Grant for the public services obligation is paid to the British Railways Board in respect of the passenger rail network as a whole, and not in respect of individual services. The board's annual report for 1983 records that the London and south-east sector's loss in that year, before payment of PSO grant, was £274.9 million.
