asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the improvements scheduled or under consideration on the A259 between 1985 and 1989 and between 1990 and 1994.

Main Programme for start of construction April 1987 onwards

  • Rye bypass
  • Winchelsea bypass

Regional Programme

  • Guestling Thorn diversion
  • Icklesham bypass
  • Brooklands diversion
  • Brenzett Junction

The timing of these schemes will depend on the progress of the statutory procedures and the availability of funds. In addition, studies of options for improvements between New Romney and Hythe and for a western bypass of Hastings are in hand.
