§ Sir David Priceasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will review the position of a male employee accepting retirement before 65 years in respect of his national insurance contributions and his entitlements.
§ Mr. WhitneyWe have already made provision to protect a man's contribution record for retirement pension and other benefits should he retire early and stop working. With effect from 6 April 1983, a man gets automatic credits for the tax year in which he reaches age 60 and for the subsequent four years, providing he is normally resident in this country.
The national insurance contributions and entitlements of male employees accepting retirement before 65 years will be considered in the light of the findings of the inquiry into provision for retirement.
§ Sir David Priceasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he is taking to facilitate earlier retirement in the public and private sectors, respectively.
§ Mr. NewtonPolicy on this matter is among the issues currently under consideration by the inquiry into provision for retirement, whose conclusions will be taken into account in formulating Government proposals for social security as a whole.
