HC Deb 20 November 1984 vol 68 cc123-4W
Mr. Mason

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if his review of the possible cancerous effects on humans using chrysoidine dye has been completed; if he has examined the report "Maggots Dyed with Chrysoidine; a Possible Risk to Anglers", in the October 1984 edition of the British Medical Journal, volume 289, a copy of which has been sent to him; if he will take this report into account in view of the suggested link between the use of chrysoidine dye by anglers and cases of bladder cancer; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

The Committee on Carcinogenicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment has advised on the likelihood of harmful effects from chrysoidine on a number of occasions. It continues to look at all reports about the effects on human health. The report that the right hon. Member refers to will be drawn to the committee's attention at its meeting next month.
