§ Mr. Hunterasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what public funds are made available for research into the causes and treatment of hyperactivity in children.
§ Mr. John PattenI refer my hon. Friend and the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Fife, Central (Mr. Hamilton) on 15 March at column259–60, which described research currently being funded by the Medical Research Council. This Department is also prepared to consider soundly based research proposals in this area. Such proposals would be considered by our mental illness research liaison group and would have to compete for funding with others we receive in the mental health field.
