§ Mrs. Peacockasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will introduce legislation to allow the use of irradiation as a means of food preservation following the acceptance of this technology by the United States Food and Drug Authority.
§ Mr. John PattenThe question of the wholesomeness of irradiated foods is at present under review by the advisory committee on irradiated and novel foods, which is taking into account recent international developments including those in the United States of America. The committee is expected to report to Health and Agriculture Ministers in the summer and in the light of the report we shall consider what action to take.
