HC Deb 12 March 1984 vol 56 c42W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what percentage of computer staff at Government communications headquarters, Cheltenham, have indicated their intention to resign since the Government's decision to prevent members of the staff from belonging to trade unions.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

It would not be in the interest of national security to reveal details of the response among different categories of GCHQ staff to the offer they were made on 25 January. Nighty-eight per cent. of the total GCHQ staff have now opted to continue to work at GCHQ under the revised conditions of service.
