Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the numbers of long-term unemployed for the Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath employment office areas, and by postal code districts, if possible, in April 1983 and April 1984.

The table below shows the number of claimants in the Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath jobcentre areas who had been unemployed for over 52 weeks at April 1983 and April 1984. I regret that the information could only be made available by post code sector at disproportionate cost.
